Are you 100% sold?
This isn’t just a casual query. It’s about whether you’re fully convinced—whether you’re absolutely sold on what you’re doing, the people you’re working with, and, most importantly, yourself. As my good friend Charmaine Keegan (Sales & BD training wizard & inspiration for this blog) says, being 100% sold is not just nice; it’s essential.
Why Being 100% Sold Matters
Whether you’re representing a candidate, selling your services, or promoting your company, if you’re not fully convinced of their value, your doubt will show (consciously or unconsciously). And if you’re only 70% sold, that’s all you’ll convey—70%. But when you’re 100% sold, that conviction is contagious. Your confidence becomes their confidence.
We have a saying in our office – that working a brief or a new candidate is either a “hell yes! Or a hell nahh” if it’s a “hell yes” then your energy needs to match that when you speak to your candidates & clients.
The Challenge of Staying 100% Sold
Keeping yourself or your team 100% sold every day isn’t easy. It’s a challenge to stay motivated and energised, especially in recruitment. It’s a skill, a habit, and for some, it’s a real struggle.
So, how do you maintain that 100% sold attitude, especially on those days when you’re feeling less than your best?
A Practical Exercise to Get You There
Let’s start with a scenario. You’ve just walked into the office, coffee in hand, but you’re exhausted. It’s been a long week, and you’re not feeling it. What do you do?
Here’s an exercise that can help you regain that 100% sold feeling:
- Identify Your Greatest Challenge: Grab a pen and write down the biggest challenge you’re facing right now. Is it generating more deals? Improving your social media presence? Whatever it is, be specific.
- Reflect on Past Successes: Underneath that challenge, write down three or four times when you’ve faced a similar obstacle and succeeded. Maybe you’ve rebuilt a client list from scratch before or overcome a tough quarter. These past victories are your proof that you can do it again.
- Remind Yourself of Your Strengths: Stand up, say it out loud, and remind yourself of your past successes. “I’ve done this before. I’ve overcome similar challenges. I’m 100% sold that I can do it again.”
This isn’t just a motivational pep talk. It’s about building a mental repository of proof—evidence that you’ve succeeded before and will again. The more you do this, the easier it becomes to stay sold on yourself.
Applying This to Your Team
If you manage a team, this approach is just as powerful. Take a moment to rally your team, remind them of their strengths, and let them know why you’re 100% sold on them. This isn’t about empty praise; it’s about recognising their strengths, acknowledging their areas for growth, and showing confidence in their ability to tackle challenges.
For example, I recently did this with my team. We stood up, shook off the fatigue, and I went around the room highlighting each person’s strengths, their areas for growth, and why I’m 100% sold on their ability to overcome those challenges. The energy in the room transformed, and so did their attitudes.
Final Thoughts
Whether you’re working solo or leading a team, being 100% sold on yourself and those around you is a game-changer. It’s not just about feeling good—it’s about leveraging your past successes to fuel your future victories.
So, next time you’re facing a tough day or a big challenge, take a moment to remind yourself of what you’ve accomplished. Build your own book of truth, and let it be your guide to staying 100% sold, every day.
And remember, you’re not just doing this for yourself. When you’re 100% sold, your clients, candidates, and team will be too.
